Pools Academy draw against Bradford

Hartlepool United Academy played out a 1-1 draw with Bradford City on Saturday morning in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup following Eddie Ormerod’s second half penalty.

The Bantams led after 16 minutes when the ball was played into the feet of Bilal Hussain, who showed composure in front of goal before burying into the bottom corner.

After a number of key chances, which included a goal line clearance and shot off the post, Pools levelled on 55 minutes.

A penalty was given for handball against Bradford and Ormerod made no mistake from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Alfie Steel and Oliver Duthie had chances as the clock ticked down, but several impressive saves meant Ian McGuckin’s side were forced to settle for a point.

“We’re really pleased with the performance,” stated McGuckin at full time.

“We came into the game on the back of two defeats, with several players struggling with injury and illness.

“To show that amount of effort, to feel hard done by to not have snatched a win, is really pleasing and positive.”

Pools Academy next travel to Rochdale on Saturday morning before welcoming Harrogate Town in midweek in cup action.
