Hartlepool United Academy have concluded the first month of their EFL Youth Alliance season, and manager Ian McGuckin is pleased with what he’s seen so far.
”Fifteen new players have joined the seven second-year scholars to form the youth team for the 2024/25 season,” explained McGuckin.
“Players have settled in really well. We’re four games in and there have been some great positives to take and other areas to work on.
“It’s been excellent to see youth team players Charlie Berry and Alfie Steel involved in first team squads so far this season. Joe Aungiers has also been unfortunate to pick up a broken arm that has ruled him out of first team action following a great pre-season. Fingers crossed he can come back stronger.
“We’re looking forward to the rest of the season. There’s a new format this year, combining teams from the North West and North East to give us the opportunity to play teams we wouldn’t normally get to challenge ourselves against.
“We’ll also enter the FA Youth Cup next month, which is a prestigious competition which always provides great occasions.
“There’s a lot to look forward to so hopefully it’ll be a strong season for us.”
