Pools win against West Auckland

Darren Sarll took to the Pools dugout for the first time on Saturday afternoon as his side claimed a 3-0 victory away to West Auckland Town.

It took just 13 minutes for new signing Adam Campbell to make his mark. The forward dispossessed Gary Brown deep in the West Auckland half before dispatching a low effort into the bottom corner for the opener.

Pools’ trialist left winger went close twice before last season’s top scorer, Mani Dieseruvwe, got on the scoresheet.

Campbell played a delightful ball for Ferguson on the left flank, and his cutback was slammed home by Dieseruvwe at point-blank range.

Pools made 10 changes at the half-time break, with only a trialist getting a full 90 minutes.

That trialist sent a long-ranged effort over the bar in the second half, while twice testing West Auckland goalkeeper Nick Liversedge.

West came close to pulling once back when Josh Scott’s cutback narrowly evaded James Harrison. Harrison was also denied following a great save from a trialist keeper in the Pools goal.

A third was added late on when Nicky Featherstone’s lobbed pass was put away by a trialist striker in front of goal.

Sarll’s side are back to work on Tuesday night with a trip to National League North opposition, Scarborough Athletic.
