Academy: Pools hit Huddersfield for four

11 March 2024

After a defeat to Huddersfield in midweek, Pools Academy saw out their revenge with a 4-0 win on Saturday morning.

Pools travelled to Huddersfield in the EFL Youth Alliance naming an unchanged 11 to the team that lost 4-2 on Tuesday. Ian McGuckin added under-16s Ashton Wood and Kian Foreman to the bench.

With 16 minutes on the clock, Pools had the advantage. Campbell Darcy was pushed over from a corner and Alfie Steel confidently sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

That lead was doubled in the 26th minute. Louis Stephenson's cross from the right side dropped in the box for Max Storey to slam home at the front post.

Steel nearly made it three on the half hour after Darcy flicked on Chris Lynn's free-kick, but keeper Francis Hurl made a fantastic stop at close-range.

Huddersfield were limited to just two chances during the first half. Left-back Kandala hit the side netting, while Donnell Garrick forced a high save from Jake Wilkinson in the Pools goal.

Pools started the second half on the front foot, extending their lead on 47 minutes. Eddie Ormerod's presence forced a mistake high up the pitch and Joe Kitching slotted home in front of goal.

The fourth was added on the hour. Steel and Millen Burnett linked up before Storey tapped home at close-range for his sixth goal in three games.

Wikinson remained largely untroubled in the away goal, with Garrick coming closest in the 75th minute from a powerful long shot which soared over the bar.

And with a 4-0 win secured, Pools now look ahead to Tuesday's test against Notts County. The game will take place at Maiden Castle, Durham University with a midday kick-off.
