Hartlepool United v Newport County AFC
Sky Bet League Two
Saturday 27th August 2016
Kick-Off: 3pm

In Opposition
Newport County arrive in the north-east having collected four points from their four league games so far to sit 17th in the embryonic League Two table.

A confidence-boosting 1-0 win at Leyton Orient a fortnight ago helped build expectations that boss Warren Feeney can help improve fortunes after a third-bottom finish last term.

Feeney has been busy in the transfer market since arriving at Rodney Parade in January to succeed John Sheridan and become County’s third manager of the season after Terry Butcher began at the helm.

Among the new faces to arrive in South Wales during the summer was former Pools winger Jack Compton and veteran front man Jon Parkin who spent a month on loan at The Vic in 2002.

Star Man
Midfield star Mark Randall became Warren Feeney’s second summer signing when he signed a two-year contract at Rodney Parade.

The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season with League Two rivals Barnet following his January release from MK Dons.

A former Arsenal trainee, Randall made two cup appearances for The Gunners before a series of loan moves ended with a permanent switch to Chesterfield.

Head To Head
This weekend will be the seventh meeting between the two sides since Newport County AFC reformed and Pools are unbeaten in the last five.

Three of the last four encounters have ended all-square, with both sides coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 in the games during 2014/15.

Referee
Andy Haines will oversee his seventh Pools game this weekend when he is the man in charge for Newport County’s visit to the north-east.

His last visit came in August 2015 when he was on the whistle for our 3-2 defeat to Carlisle United, while he was also at The Vic for our New Year’s Day games in 2013 and 2014.

Haines’ most recent outing came last weekend when he was in charge of Stevenage’s 2-1 win over Luton Town at The Lamex Stadium.
