Youth Team Hit Five In Boston Rout

Boston United v Hartlepool United (David Dales)

Pools Youth Team smashed five goals past Boston United on Wednesday to make it four unbeaten and underline their great recent run of form in the NLFA North Division.

Joe Grey led the way with two goals, while Coleby Shepherd, Luke Chapman and Jack Leonard were all on target too as Pools proved too strong for their hosts.

Ian McGuckin’s youngsters set the tone inside two minutes when Shepherd whipped a brilliant ball in to the penalty area which found Chapman in space and able to head home the opening goal.

From then on, Pools went on to dominate proceedings and doubled their advance just after the quarter-hour mark when Grey was brought down in the box before picking himself to score the resultant penalty.

The confidence was clear as Pools monopolised possession and created several more scoring opportunities, with Boston pushed right back inside their own half.

A third goal arrived for pools when Adam Campbell did brilliantly down the left flank and his ball inside found Shepherd who buried a shot past the keeper to make it 3-0.

The second half continued in a similar manner with Pools manufacturing an abundance of opportunities but a mixture of wasteful finishing and excellent goalkeeping frustrated them.

However, it was 4-0 just after the hour when Leonard cut in dangerously from the left-hand side before unleashing a shot in to the far top corner of the net.

Pools added further gloss to their victory inside the final ten minutes when Grey grabbed his second of the afternoon, showing great close control inside the area before forcing the ball home from close range.

“That’s exactly the type of performance we want from the lads – we were dominant from start to finish,” McGuckin enthused.

“If I am being a bit greedy then we could probably have scored quite a few more goals on the day but the positive is that we are creating lots of good opportunities.

“Maybe that’s being harsh though because I can’t fault the lads; they’re working hard and they’re getting the breaks from that which perhaps they didn’t enjoy earlier in the season.”
