Dave Challinor has admitted there is big anticipation for the weekend as Pools head to League One Oxford United in the Third Round of the FA Cup (3.01pm kick-off).
The Pools boss knows U’s boss Karl Robinson well and is looking forward to locking horns with him at The Kassam Stadium as they battle for a coveted place in the Fourth Round up for grabs.
Oxford were surprisingly beaten at Doncaster Rovers on New Year’s Day but have lost just twice in the league since September so Challinor knows the task that awaits his team on Saturday.
“It’s an exciting cup tie against a good side – I know they lost on Wednesday but they’re in a rich vein of form,” Challinor told Pools TV.
“We know that it will be a difficult place to go and a big pitch to play on but there is obviously a massive carrot at the end of it.
“It’s not just for prize money for a Club of our size but also the potential of being through to the Fourth Round draw.
“This game has probably been on the players’ minds for a while but from our point of view on the management side of it, Saturday is important but Tuesday will be more important to me against Eastleigh.
“However, that won’t stop us going to Oxford with a gameplan and put in the effort which we hope can see us through to the next round.”
