We Need To Build Momentum – Hignett

Craig Hignett, Hartlepool United

Craig Hignett has called on his players to build on the many positives from Monday’s fine win over Wrexham when they travel Torquay United this weekend.

Pools will embark on their longest trip of the season to face The Gulls at Plainmoor but Hignett reckons the three points gained last time out will make for a happy journey.

“I think Monday has done the lads a world of good – there’s a bounce in everyone’s step,” he told Pools TV.

“It’s about building momentum now, picking up as many points as we can, getting a few of the injured lads back and really kicking on.

“We’ve done okay so far even though I don’t think we’ve got the points we should have had or probably deserved but that’s gone and it’s about looking forward.

“We were really good on Monday and now we need to build on it.”

Torquay have enjoyed a solid start to the new campaign having won promotion as National League South champions last term to return to the fifth tier at the first attempt.

Their early form isn’t something that has surprised Hignett and he knows that Pools will need to be at their best if they want to continue an unbeaten record against Torquay which stretches back eleven games.

“They’ve had a good start,” Hignett told us.

“I thought they would because Gary Johnson is an experienced and well-respected manager at this level – he knows the league and he knows how to get out of it too.

“They play some good stuff; they are a footballing side who will try and play. I think we’re the same so I would expect it to be a good open game.”
