We Expect Better Than That – Hignett

Craig Hignett, Hartlepool United Manager

Craig Hignett admitted he was disappointed with his side’s second half performance as they squandered a half-time lead to suffer defeat at York City on Wednesday evening.

The Pools boss was happy with what he saw from his players in the opening 45 minutes as Nicke Kabamba’s superb looping header gave them a well-deserved lead at the break.

However, after a raft of changes at half-time, the second half display didn’t hit the same heights and host York took full advantage to come from behind and win 2-1 at Bootham Crescent.

“It was a game of two halves, I think,” Hignett told Pools PlayerHD.

“We were in complete control in the first half and played really well but in the second we showed poor decision making, let them get in to it and lost our way a little bit.

“It’s obviously difficult when you make a lot of changes at half-time like we did but I still expect better because the goals we conceded were schoolboy stuff really.

“We were well on top in the first half, they couldn’t cope with our midfield, we caused them problems up front and we played some really good stuff and looked a threat.

“York played well in the second half, they really did – they had a go and they got in our faces, which is great because we want to play those types of games as that’s what we’ll face.

“We’ve got a lot of competition for places now where people will either sink or swim so I will find out a lot about the lads because of that as the games go on.”
