Rhys Oates

Date of birth

183 cm

Versatile youngster Rhys Oates joined Pools in the summer of 2015 following his surprising release from boyhood club Barnsley.

Signed as a central striker, Oates physical attributes and blinding pace meant he was often utilised on the flank during his first season at Victoria Park during which he scored three goals in 45 appearances.

The Yorkshire-born attacker had been on the books at Oakwell since he was just six-years-old and made his senior debut for The Tykes in August 2014, whilst also gaining experience from loan spells at Gainsborough Trinity, Stockport County, Grimsby Town and Chester.

He returned to star for Barnsley’s First Team during the latter stages of 2014/15 when he helped inspire a 5-0 win over Rochdale on the final day and Pools were quick to make their move to snap him up once his departure was confirmed.

Oates was on the fringes of the team as the season began and was allowed to move for a spell on loan with Gateshead. However, he returned to The Vic and produced some of his best form and was one of the key players during the season run-in.

That form towards the end of 2016/17 meant it was greeted with delight by supporters when the young front man put pen to paper on a new contract with the Club in June 2017.
