The powerful young midfielder burst on the scene at Victoria Park during the pre-season of 2013/14 when he was included in the squad for a trip to Holland.

The Billingham-born youngster had caught the eye after finishing as top scorer for the Club’s Youth Team and he was heavily involved in the Club’s warm-up games for the campaign.

After starring against Middlesbrough in a friendly at The Vic, Walker was handed a professional contract and he went on to make his competitive senior debut on the opening day of the 2013/14 season at Rochdale.

His composure on the ball was allied with great vision and strength, meaning he kept his place in the side and made 42 appearances during the breakthrough season which was capped with a Goal of the Season prize for his stunning volley at Southend.

The accolades kept coming too as he was named as the LFE League Two Apprentice of the Year at the Football League Awards before being called-up to train with England Under-18s at the start of 2014/15.

The youngster has remained a regular in the squad ever since making just under thirty appearances in both the 2014/15 and 2015/16 campaigns, with the Club triggering an option in his contract at the end of last term.

Whilst Walker struggled to gain a regular place in the side during the opening half of last term, he came back in to the reckoning towards the end when he was used in an unfamiliar centre-back role.

However, he blossomed in the deeper position alongside Scott Harrison and could even challenge to start the season in defence when the action reconvenes for 2017/18.
