Prolific front man joined Pools during the summer of 2016 after turning down the offer of a new deal from League Two new boys Grimsby Town.

The Irishman scored an astonishing 37 goals in all competitions for The Mariners last term, becoming a huge fans’ favourite as he helped fire them to promotion from the National League.

Craig Hignett quickly installed him as one of his top transfer targets and was able to persuade the former Morecambe man that his future lay at Victoria Park.

Amond began his career back in his homeland with Shamrock Rovers where he spent three years before moving on to Sligo Rovers where he continued to find the net regularly.

After a sting playing in Portugal, Amond returned to England on a season-long loan with Accrington Stanley at the start of 2011/12 and the move turned permanent the following summer.

In 2013, Morecambe swooped to secure his services and he netted 19 goals in 50 appearances for The Shrimps, operating mainly on the right side of midfield.

He joined Grimsby at the start of the 2015/16 campaign and went on to enjoy a stunning year at Blundell Park, winning a whole host of Player of the Year awards.

Amond enjoyed a decent first season at The Vic, helping himself to 14 goals despite often being used in a lone attacking role for the team.
