Dave Challinor admitted that he’s seen his side play better but the three points were all that mattered in victory over Aldershot Town on Saturday.
Pools did the damage to their visitors inside the opening twenty minutes as Luke Molyneux scored on his first start of the season before turning provider for Mark Shelton to nod in the second goal.
Challinor was satisfied with the end result and said that collecting three points was the perfect way to end a strenuous week for his players.
“We’ve probably played better and lost, if I’m honest,” Challinor told Pools TV.
“We had a good start to the game and put ourselves in a winning position after twenty minutes.
“As we progress, the demands from me will become more and I would love us to play a lot better because I know we can – but we are at a point in the season where three points is massive.
“If I am being critical, then the five goals we should have scored today I just hope we’ve saved for next week and the few weeks afterwards and they don’t come back to bite us.
“We’ll take the three points and I know we could have scored more goals to make the last ten minutes a bit more comfortable for ourselves but you move on and it’s the start of a new run.
“We’ve worked really hard this week and you want reward at the end of it.
“Regardless of what we do Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday – it’s all about what you do on a Saturday and you want the result to reinforce what you’re doing so thankfully we got that today.”
