Hartlepool United v Woking
National League
Saturday 7th September 2019, 7.30pm
Victoria Park

In Opposition

Woking have been one of the surprise package of the opening month in the National League, springing out of the traps in fine form following last year’s promotion.

The Cards won their place back in the fifth tier at the first attempt via a glorious Play-Off Final win over Welling and they’ve emerged as one of the pace-setters so far in 2018/19.

Gateshead-born boss Alan Dowson dealt with an array of on and off field problems following his appointment last summer and enjoyed a debut season to remember in the Woking dugout.

This term they’ve already beaten the likes of Dagenham & Redbridge, AFC Fylde and Solihull Moors with an impressive seven victories from nine outings taking them second in the table.

They arrive at Victoria Park looking to extend their 100% record on the road so far in what should be a cracking game in front of the live BT Sport cameras on Saturday evening.

One To Watch

Jake Hyde penned a new deal with Woking during the summer after finishing their promotion season as joint top scorer in all competitions.

The powerful front man has plenty of experience at this level and above, and he’s already hit the net six times in the new campaign.

It looks likely that he is going to be the main man again this year for The Cards and he’s one Pools will need to keep quiet it they want to continue their winning run this weekend.

Head To Head

Pools and Woking have met just twice in competitive action previously when the teams shared a division during the 2017/18 campaign.

It was Pools who fared better during those meetings, drawing 1-1 at Kingfield in September 2017 before running out 3-2 winners at The Vic in February 2018 thanks to goals from Devante Rodney, Jake Cassidy and Rhys Oates.
