Pools Women Turn Focus Back To League

Hartlepool United Women's Team

Pools Women are back in NERWFL Premier Division action on Sunday when they make the trip to face South Shields (2pm kick-off).

After back-to-back triumphs in the FA Cup set up a meeting with National League outfit Chorley next weekend, boss Jonathan Gibbon-Hayes is excited to turn attentions back to the battle for points.

Shields have won two of their three NERWFL fixtures so far this season but Pools would leapfrog their hosts with a victory over them at Harton Westoe Miners Welfare on Sunday.

“We’ve done some fantastic work in training this week and you can see the competitive side of the players coming out because they know they have to fight for their places,” explained Gibbon-Hayes.

“It will be a tough game against South Shields but we want to get the points because it seems quite bizarre to be in mid-October and have only played two games in the league so far.

“The players and the staff are all buzzing though and we’re focused on getting another good result on Sunday which would set us up nicely for our big FA Cup game next weekend.”

Gibbon-Hayes has no new injury worries to contend with ahead of Sunday’s game but must to decide whether to make any changes following the 4-3 win over Blackburn Community last time out.

New signing Ellie Gutcher won’t be available to face Shields but is expected to come in to contention for a debut against Chorley next week.

Entry to Sunday’s game at Harton Westoe Miners Welfare is free to all supporters.
