New signing Gus Mafuta has admitted he can’t wait to play in front of the Pools fans after he agreed a deal to become the Club’s sixth signing of the summer on Friday afternoon.
The tough-tackling midfielder experienced first-hand how uncomfortable The Super 6 Stadium can be for visiting players when he started for Salford City in the final game of last season.
On that day, Mafuta’s no-nonsense style of play saw him singled out for some rough treatment from the terraces – now he’s looking forward to having those supporters right behind him in the new campaign.
“I’m very excited, this is a massive football club,” he told Pools PlayerHD.
“I played here in the last game of last season and you could see that when the football on the pitch is going well the fans really get behind the team so they can be a bit of a twelfth man this season.
“They have a lot to forward to because it seems like this Club is starting to get back to where I think it belongs in terms of infrastructure so now it’s up to us lads to put in performances on the pitch.
“Salford came here on the last day needing something to potentially win the league but the Hartlepool fans made it hard – they were very noisy.
“I got a little bit of stick that day because of some of my tackles but it will be nice to have them on my side in the coming season.
“The team we have got here now is capable of competing but there’s no time for any talking – it’s about going and showing everyone we can do it.”
