Pools Complete Signing Of Jason Kennedy

Jason Kennedy, Hartlepool United

Craig Hignett has further strengthened his squad ahead of the new campaign with the signing of experienced midfielder Jason Kennedy.

The 32-year-old has spent pre-season in training with Pools and has been one of the standout performers in each of our five friendlies so far, scoring in the win at Shildon last weekend.

Pools boss Hignett was keen to tie up a deal for the former Carlisle United star and terms have now been agreed over his permanent switch to the Club following his release from Brunton Park.

Kennedy began his career with Middlesbrough where he emerged from the Academy to play a handful of games in the Premier League before establishing himself as one of the most sought-after midfielders in the lower divisions.

A loan move to Darlington in 2008 was turned permanent and he played over 50 games for The Quakers before securing a move to Rochdale where he tucked another 200 appearances under his belt.

An intelligent performer with a keen eye for goal, Kennedy’s next destination was Bradford City where he spent a couple of seasons before putting down some roots in Carlisle in 2015.

His dominant displays in the engine room meant he became a fans’ favourite in Cumbria and he’d made more than 100 appearances for the club before his departure at the end of last term.

Kennedy, who has had to fight back from a troublesome back injury which required some intricate surgery in 2018, has more than proved his fitness during a rigorous pre-season campaign with Pools.

Putting pen to paper on a deal with the Club, he now becomes the seventh new arrival of the summer and has been handed squad number 28 for 2019/20.
