Pools fans reacted with joy to the news of Luke Williams signing of a permanent deal last August, only for a troublesome knee injury to completely ruin his season.
Having seen him play seven times for Pools during a loan spell in 2014, supporters knew exactly what they could expect from Williams in the National League.
However, the mercurial attacking midfield man twice needed surgery to try and repair his knee problem, which ended up keeping him sidelined for the entire campaign.
In a bid to end his injury frustration, Williams stayed behind at the end of the season and put his holiday plans on hold to do extra work throughout the summer.
Craig Hignett – who played a key role in Williams’ development at Middlesbrough – agreed a new deal to keep the highly-rated star at Pools in to the 2019/20 when he will be hoping to make up for lost time.
