Patience Paid Off For Us – Parkinson

Joe Parkinson, Hartlepool United

Joe Parkinson hailed the patience of the players as they wore down Dagenham & Redbridge to enjoy a 1-0 win at Victoria Park on Saturday.

The goal came from an unlikely source in full-back Mark Kitching ten minutes from time and Parkinson admitted that they weren’t sure it was going to come.

However, the team kept on going and a moment of brilliance from Tyler Hamilton set Kitching through to score his first Victoria Park goal for the Club.

“It was a massive win and I’m made up for the lads,” Parkinson told Pools TV.

“They worked tirelessly when Dagenham sat in and made it difficult for us but we dominated the game for the most part.

“We kept on going and we just wanted something unexpected to happen and I think we got that with Mark Kitching’s goal, which he fully deserved.

“Games like that can be difficult and you can get frustrated but that is where you have to stay patient and still move the ball quickly and stick to the things you know will work for you.

“It looked like it could have been one of those days for us but they defended very well to be fair, they blocked shots, there was some last-ditching tackling and sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition.

“We’ve got so many games coming up and we wanted to tick this one off with three points and that gives us some real momentum now.

“A win at home in front of our fans just before Christmas – perfect.”
