Match Preview: Pools head to Aldershot

20 October 2023

After exiting the Emirates FA Cup last week to Chester, Hartlepool United make the long trip to Aldershot this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Lowdown

Despite a patchy run of form, Pools are still in the National League play-off places. Injuries have put paid to the bright start made by Askey's side, with his side winning just two of their last six games.

Aldershot are just a point behind Pools and will have high ambitions given their solid start to the season. Former Hartlepool midfielder Tommy Widdrington is at the helm for the Shots, and his side features Josh Stokes. The forward has bagged seven goals already this season, and he'll be a danger man on Saturday.

The History

The sides have met nine times previously, with Pools winning five times, Aldershot winning twice, and two matches ending in a draw. Pools have won the last four in a row, and last time out, they won 3-1 away thanks to goals from Luke Armstrong, Rhys Oates, and Nicky Featherstone.

Team News

Charlie Seaman could return to the matchday squad for Pools, having missed last weekend's cup fixture due to loan requirements.

Kieran Wallace and Callum Cooke are showing early signs of promise following their long-term injuries, with Askey hopeful of filtering the pair back into training over the coming weeks.

Anthony Mancini and Dan Dodds remained sidelined with their long-term injuries.

How to Follow

If you're not travelling to Aldershot, you can follow the action via National League TV here. Match passes cost £9.50 and grant you access to all streamed fixtures on the given day. Please note that matches at 3pm on a Saturday are not streamed in the UK, so audio-only coverage is available.
