Ian McGuckin appointed Academy Manager

16 October 2023

Hartlepool United are pleased to announce the appointment of Ian McGuckin as the Club’s new Academy Manager.

Ian, who made 186 appearances at Pools during his playing career, steps up to the role after spending time as the Academy Lead Professional Development Phase Coach in recent years. He has spent a total of 16 years at Pools in playing and various coaching capacities, including academy and first-team.

Hartlepool’s Academy side currently sit second in the EFL Youth Alliance table after a strong start to the season, while remaining in the FA Youth Cup. Our development side have also continued to progress on the pitch, alongside their first-class education programme in association with Hartlepool College.

Ian commented on his appointment:

“I’m delighted to take up the role. I’m looking forward to it and I can’t wait to continue the excellent work that we’ve already started within the Academy. Hopefully we can see many more young players develop here at Hartlepool United both on and off the field.”

Chairman Raj Singh spoke about Ian’s appointment:

“Its great to see Ian progressing into this role. He’s been instrumental over recent years in helping re-establish the Academy programme and it felt like the right time for him to take the reins on the programme and to drive its next stage of development. Some good progress has been made in recent years but there is still a long way to go and it is very much a medium-long term project for the Club.”

Ian replaces Andy Lowe. We thank Andy for his efforts at Hartlepool United and wish him the best of luck for his future.
