Match Preview: Pools Set to Host Swindon

31 March 2023

With just a handful of matches left, Hartlepool United are looking to give their survival hopes a boost as they welcome Swindon Town to the Suit Direct Stadium on Saturday (3pm KO).

The Opposition

Swindon are 11th in League Two, 10 points from the play-off places. It's been a season of consolidation for the Robins after dropping into the fourth tier last season. The Wiltshire side is led by Jody Morris, a former first-team coach at Derby County and Chelsea under Frank Lampard.

Wales international Jonny Williams features in midfield for the Robins, while former QPR, Southampton, and West Brom striker Charlie Austin is joined in attack by former Poolie Tomi Adeloye.

The History

This will be just the 33rd meeting between the sides, with Pools winning six times, Swindon winning 14 times, and 12 matches ending in a draw. Swindon have won the last three meetings between the sides, including earlier this season, and you have to go back to 2009 for Pools' last win - a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from James Brown and Andy Monkhouse.

Team News

John Askey has no new concerns ahead of the fixture, with Wes McDonald pushing for a starting spot after his impressive performance last time out. The manager has stressed how important each player is for the final run of games, with everyone playing their part in Pools' survival bid.
