Match Preview: Hartlepool Host Orient

22 March 2023

With 27 points left to play for, Hartlepool United are looking for a vital win as they host Leyton Orient on Saturday (3pm KO). A point on the road last time out was welcome, but John Askey will be demanding more from his side this weekend.

The Opposition

Top-of-the-table Leyton Orient come into the fixture on an eight-game unbeaten run. They've won 21 of their 36 matches this season and are in pole position to be promoted to League One. The O's are led by manager Richie Wellens and his assistant, Paul Terry, brother of former Chelsea and England skipper John Terry.

Their side features plenty of quality, with skipper Darren Pratley boasting more than 600 career appearances.

The History

This will be the 56th meeting between the sides, with Pools winning 21 games, Orient winning 22 games, and 12 matches ending in a draw. Earlier this season, Orient won an entertaining game 4-2, while Pools' last win over the O's came in 2018 thanks to Louis Laing's goal.

Team News

Pools are in good shape heading into the fixture, with the treatment room virtually empty. Alex Lacey is back on the track, while Tom Crawford is firmly in contention after his long-term injury.

Edon Pruti is also available for the fixture, despite being called up by Albania U21s.
