Match Report: Pools Press on in Pre-Season

25 July 2023

Hartlepool United continued their unbeaten start to pre-season with an emphatic 5-1 win over Redcar Athletic.

The game started with Redcar taking a early lead. A deflected effort flew past Dixon in net to give the hosts a dream start.

However, Pools were straight back in the game when Umerah put a cross to the back post and Dieseruvwe was there to tap in and find the deserved equaliser.

Just two minutes later, Askey's side nearly had a second as once again Umerah involved touched the ball round the corner to Mancini who cut the ball back to Dieseruvwe but his effort was well blocked.

After 33 minutes, Umerah got his goal for all his hardwork. Mancini worked the right channel before cutting the ball back to our number nine to finish into the side netting.

Just before half-time, Dieseruvwe was involved again as he controlled the Ferguson cross and laid the ball back to Paterson and his strike was well saved by the Redcar keeper.

A quick start to the second half saw Pools grab their third after two minutes of the restart. Chris Wreh with some good work down the right-hand side to pull the ball across, a few deflections later and the ball fell to Joe Grey for a easy tap in.

15 minutes from time Pools found their fourth. The ball bounced just outside the area and it was a smart turn and finish from Chris Wreh.

Then, two minutes from the end, David Ferguson drove forward and was bundled over to win Pools a penalty. The resulting spot kick was buried by Wreh for his second and Pools' fifth.

John Askey's side face their penultimate pre-season fixture this Friday night as they welcome Harrogate to The Suit Direct.

First half: Dixon, Dodds, Onariase, Pruti, Ferguson, Paterson, Crawford, Cooke, Mancini, Umerah, Diesurevwe.
