The first match of pre-season is just around the corner as Hartlepool United get set to face Middlesbrough on Friday (7pm KO).
Middlesbrough finished last season strongly, reaching the Championship play-offs under Michael Carrick's leadership. They'll want to go further in the coming season, with promotion firmly in the Teessider's sights. Under Carrick, Boro have strengthened over the summer, with signings including Seny Dieng, Rav van den Berg, and Morgan Rogers.
Since 2005, Pools and Boro have met seven times in pre-season friendlies. In that time, Pools have won just once thanks to goals from Michael Nelson, Chris Llewllyn, and Darrell Clarke. The Boro line up that day featured Ross Turnbull Colin Cooper, who both took up with Pools upon retirement.
The sides last met in 2019, when Boro won 4-0. Luke Armstrong made an appearance from the bench for Boro, a couple of years before firing Pools to promotion in 2021.
All of John Askey's summer signings should be available for the fixture, including Chris Wreh, recently signed from Southend United. No injuries have been reported in the camp, with many set to pull on the blue and white stripes for the first time.
