After defeating Middlesbrough in their opening pre-season game, Hartlepool United travel to Blyth Spartans on Saturday (3pm KO).
Blyth currently play in the National League North and are currently managed by Graham Fenton. Last season, they finished 19th in the table and will want to push up the table in the 23/24 table. Their side features some familiar names for Poolies, including Nicky Deverdics. He played in League Two and the National League for Pools, scoring a memorable free-kick against Tranmere.
Altogether, the sides have met 17 times previously. In seven first-class meetings, both sides have won twice, with three matches ending in a draw. The last competitive meeting saw Blyth run out 2-1 winners in the FA Cup second round thanks to a goal from former Pools youth team captain Stephen Turnbull and a last-minute winner from Jarrett Rivers.
The addition of Manny Onariase gives John Askey another option in defence ahead of the fixture. No fresh injuries have been reported, though Oli Finney and Josh Umerah missed out against Boro with strains. Alex Lacey is continuing his recovery from injury, too, and he should be re-joining Askey's matchday squads soon.
Blyth Spartans have confirmed that cash turnstiles will be in operation on the day, with no segregation between home and away fans. However, we recommend that you buy in advance via their website. Tickets are available on their site from 12pm on July 19th.
