Match Preview: Pools Head to the Dons

16 February 2023

Hartlepool United are looking to bounce back from their defeat at Crewe as they head to Wimbledon on Saturday (3pm KO). Wimbledon are harbouring play-off ambitions, and with just one win in five, they'll provide a stern test for Keith Curle's side.

The Opposition

Wimbledon are 13th in League Two, just seven points off the play-offs. They've won 10 of their 30 games this season, thought they've failed to score in their previous three games.

Former Charlton Athletic manager Johnnie Jackson has been at the helm since May 2022, and his side features Chris Gunter, a recent feature in Wales' World Cup squad and one of only a handful of players to achieve more than 100 international caps.

The History

The sides have met seven times since AFC Wimbledon were founded in 2002. Pools have won four times, Wimbledon have won twice, and one match has ended in a draw, including earlier this season.

Matty Dolan scored against Wimbledon in his first loan spell with Pools, helping Colin Cooper's to a 3-1 win after strikes by Simon Walton and Luke James.

Team News

Jamie Sterry will miss the fixture in Wimbledon after his red card at Crewe, with Keith Curle confirming that the decision won't be appealed. However, no new injury concerns is good news for Curle, and he'll have plenty of options to choose from as Pools search for a positive result.
