Match Preview: Pools head to Doncaster

3 February 2023

Buoyed by five deadline-day signings and backed by hundreds of fans, Hartlepool United travel to Doncaster looking to kickstart their season at the Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday (3pm KO).

The Opposition

Doncaster are 15th in League Two, 15 points above Pools. They've won 11 of their 26 games this season and their last five results show three losses and two wins. Last time out, Rovers fell to a 4-1 defeat to Mansfield.

Rovers' head coach is Danny Schofield, the former Huddersfield coach. His side includes two former Poolies - Jonny Mitchell plays in goal, while Luke Molyneux hugs the touchline.

The History

The sides have met 102 times previously, with the history being fairly even. Pools have won 36 times, Doncaster have won 38 times, and 28 matches have ended in a draw. Earlier this season, Pools won 2-1 after goals from Josh Umerah and Wes McDonald. Before that, the sides last met as, despite a 2-1 victory thanks to Devante Rodney's brace, Pools were relegated to the National League in 2017.

Team News

Keith Curle has a vast array of options available after making 11 signings in the window. Tayt Trusty, Peter Hartley, Dan Dodds, Matty Dolan, and Edon Pruti have already featured, while their fellow January signings will be keen to get involved. Alex Lacey, Tom Crawford, and Callum Cooke continue their recoveries from injury.
