Women: 2023/24 Season Preview

31 August 2023

Hartlepool United Women are ready and raring to go for their upcoming return to the fifth tier of women’s football.

Following last season’s promotion, spirits are high in the Pools camp and there is cause for optimism after a positive pre-season.

This Sunday’s season opener is a repeat of last year’s first game, a home fixture against fellow promoted side Spennymoor Town. The two sides enjoyed some competitive match-ups last term, with both teams winning a game each, and Pools will be determined to get off to a strong start this time around.

The game is being played at Grayfields (TS24 8PJ) at 2pm. It’s free entry for all spectators and the Pavilion Bar will be serving refreshments throughout the afternoon. Come along and give the ladies your support this weekend.

The early weeks of the season will also see Hartlepool face up against some familiar opposition. They host Wakefield in September while also travelling to Sunderland West End and Alnwick Town - all three are well established in the NERWFL Premier and will provide tough tests.

In October, Pools take longer trips to Bradford City and Hull United. This will be first time Hartlepool have taken on these sides, offering an unknown quantity that will make for some intriguing encounters.

The first three months will help to set the tone for the campaign and Pools will be aiming to have plenty of points on the board before a hectic festive period. Manager Craig Bage spoke of his excitement about the upcoming campaign:

“Our pre-season and player recruitment has been very good with nine players coming in. The new signings coming in have added more experience to the team and the confidence is there. Our league opener takes place this Sunday against Spennymoor and it’s needless to say all the players are excited to get started.”
