Match Preview: Pools Ready to Host Stevenage

9 April 2023

After a barnstorming win away to Grimsby Town on Good Friday, Hartlepool United are ready to welcome Stevenage on Easter Monday (3pm KO).

The Opposition

Stevenage are fourth in League Two, though they've won just once in their last give games. The Boro are level on points with third-placed Carlisle, and they'll still harbour hopes of automatic promotion deep into the business end of the season.

Manager Steve Evans has plenty of experience after spells at Crawley, Leeds, and Gillingham to name a few. His side features Luke Norris, the Boro's top scorer this season with 10 goals.

The History

This will be the 15th meeting between the sides, and the history favours Stevenage heavily. Pools have won just once in the past, while Stevenage have won 10 matches. Earlier this season, Stevenage won 1-0 at home, with Pools' solitary win coming back in 2017 thanks to goals from Nicky Featherstone and Brad Walker.

Team News

John Askey has no new concerns ahead of the fixture, though the tight turnaround may mean changes are required. Alex Lacey is close to a comeback, but he'll be monitored closely.
