Match Preview- Good Friday in Grimsby

5 April 2023

After the euphoria of Saturday's win over Swindon, Hartlepool United are back on the road to face Grimsby Town on Good Friday (3pm KO).

The Opposition

Grimsby are 15th in League Two, having consolidated their position in the league after promotion last term. Combined with a fantastic FA Cup campaign, the Mariners will be delighted with what they've achieved this term.

Led by manager Paul Hurst, Grimsby's side features former Poolies in Gavan Holohan, Danny Amos, and Bryn Morris, while Kieran Green was a youth player at Pools. He went on to make two senior appearances for Pools, and he's since blossomed at Halifax Town, helping the Shay to the National League play-offs last season.

The History

This will be the 50th meeting between the sides, with Pools winning 19 of the previous encounters. Grimsby have won 23 games, while nine matches have ended in a draw. Earlier this season, Pools were 2-1 victors at home. Despite former Poolie Holohan getting the opener, an Alex Lacey strike and a Niall Maher own-goal gave Keith Curle's side the points.

Team News

John Askey is close to a fully fit squad ahead of the Easter Weekend, with Tom Crawford making his long-awaited comeback against Swindon last time out.
