Match Preview: Pools travel to Harrogate

13 October 2022

Hartlepool United are back on the road this weekend as Keith Curle’s side travel down the A1 to Harrogate (12.30pm KO). Four points in their last three games has given Pools a bit more optimism, but three points are still required against the Sulphurites.

The Opposition

Like Pools, Harrogate have had a slow start in League Two, winning just twice this season. They’re currently 22nd in the league, just above the relegation zone and a point behind Pools. Led by long-term manager Simon Weaver, the Harrogate side features two former Pools loanees in Matty Daly and Luke Armstrong, fondly remembered for his goals in the 2020/21 promotion campaign.

The History

This will be just the ninth first-class meeting between the sides, with Pools currently on a three-game winning streak against Harrogate. Earlier this season, Michael Ndjoli’s brace saw Pools win 2-0 in the Papa John’s Trophy and last season, Pools won home and away in the league. In October, Pools won 3-2 after quick fire goals from Matty Daly, Mark Cullen, and David Ferguson. Then, March’s reverse fixture saw Graeme Lee’s side win 2-1 after a Ferguson strike and a wonder goal from Luke Molyneux.

Team News

Rollin Menayese joined long-term absentees Nicky Featherstone and Jamie Sterry on the treatment table before Saturday’s match against Carlisle United. Curle will hope to have the defender back fit as soon as possible.
