Match report: Women win in style

15 November 2022

Hartlepool United Women picked up their biggest win of the season so far at West Allotment on Sunday afternoon, defeating the North Tynesiders 9-0.

Pools went ahead early on and didn't look back with Robyn Foster, Atalia Robinson, Jade Pye, Anna Charlton and Liv Bell all getting on the scoresheet.

Craig Bage's side could have been ahead within two minutes, Laura Keogh delivered a ball into the box which caught the goalkeeper off guard, rushing back to stop it from crossing the line.

It wouldn't be long before Pools were in front though, a corner was floated in by Anna Charlton and Jade Pye stabbed in from inside the six yard box. By the tenth minute, it was 2-0. Atalia Robinson turned and shot against the post but Robyn Foster was on hand to fire in the rebound.

Pools were in a goalscoring mood and threw bodies forward to assert their dominance and extend their advantage. Robinson flashed two efforts wide of the Allotment goal while Pye was unlucky not to double her goal tally with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.

Robinson's persistence paid off as she netted a fantastic strike in the 27th minute. The striker delicately chipped over the onrushing goalkeeper and plotted the direction of the ball to volley home a third Hartlepool goal.

The visitors took their foot off the gas slightly in the latter stages of the first half. Pools were saved by the assistant's flag as West Allotment headed in from close range but this was chalked off for offside. At the other end, Foster, Emily Stuart and Macy Thornton all had chances before the break but failed to extend the lead.

Pools responded better after the break and were more ruthless in their decision making and clinical with their finishing. Robyn Foster netted her second goal in the 52nd minute, robbing the goalkeeper of possession before slotting into an unguarded net.

Eight minutes later, Anna Charlton made it five with a low finish from inside the box.
At this stage, Hartlepool were cruising and the remainder of the second half acted as a shooting gallery. Foster secured her hat trick in the 65th minute, lifting the ball over the Allotment goalkeeper into the top right corner.

The Pools number seven was in unplayable all afternoon and got her fourth goal three minutes later.
United boss Craig Bage took advantage of his substitutes throughout the afternoon and one introduction, Liv Bell, added a different dimension to the Pools attack. Bell netted her first goal of the season in the 77th minute, firing high over the goalkeeper to make it 8-0.

There was still time for one last goal late on, Bell was felled in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Atalia Robinson stepped up and confidently slotted the spot kick into the bottom corner.
