Match Preview: Pools travel to Barrow

18 November 2022

After a hard-fought penalty shootout win in midweek, Hartlepool United return to League Two action with a trip to Barrow on Saturday (3pm KO). A narrow loss last time out in the league will spur Pools on as they look to climb the table under Keith Curle.

The Opposition

Barrow are currently fifth in League Two after winning 10 of their 18 games this season. In their last five league games, they've won three, lost one, and drawn one. The Bluebirds are led by former Halifax manager Pete Wild, and the Royton-born manager has hit the ground running.

The side features two former Pools loanees in Tom White and Richie Bennett. Striker Josh Gordon is their top scorer this season, bagging nine goals in 17 league appearances.

The History

The sides have met 94 times in the past, with Pools winning 38 times, Barrow winning 34 times, and 22 matches ending in a draw. Last season, Pools lost the away fixture 3-2 despite goals from Will Goodwin and Tyler Burey, but got revenge in the home fixture.

John Rooney opened the scoring from 40 yards at the Suit Direct Stadium, but two goals from Luke Molyneux and an Omar Bogle strike saw Pools run out 3-1 winners.

Team News

Alex Lacey remains sidelined following a dislocated shoulder and Jack Hamilton looks set to join him after picking up a knock on Tuesday evening. Josh Umerah was substituted against Solihull, but his injury doesn't look too severe. However, our top scorer will still miss the game after accruing too many yellow cards this season.
