Match preview: Pools welcome Mansfield

29 March 2022

After a disappointing away trip to Northampton, Hartlepool United are looking to put things right as Mansfield visit the Suit Direct Stadium on Tuesday evening (7.45pm KO).

The Opposition

Mansfield come into the game having won three of their last five fixtures, defeating Exeter, Rochdale, and, most recently, Oldham Athletic. Losses to Port Vale and Tranmere in that run have slowed the Stags' momentum slightly, but they're still just a point from the play-off places.

Led by manager Nigel Clough, the side features well-known names including on-loan Newcastle midfielder Matty Longstaff, former Newcastle defender James Perch, and one of Pools' promotion heroes from last season, Rhys Oates.

The History

This will be the 92nd first-class meeting between the sides, with Pools winning 30 of the previous fixtures. Mansfield have been victorious on 44 occasions, while 17 games have ended in a draw. Earlier this season, Pools lost 3-2 in Mansfield after goals from Nicky Featherstone and Luke Molyneux were cancelled out by strikes from John-Joe O'Toole, Jordan Bowery, and George Maris.

Team News

Ben Killip missed Saturday's fixture with illness, with Nicholas Bilokapic featuing in his place, and it'll depend on Killip's recovery as to whether he'll feature against the Stags. Bryn Morris returned to the side on Saturday, and he'll hope to keep his place for the remaining games of the season.
