Match Preview: Pools welcome Bradford City

15 March 2022

After a forgettable performance against Leyton Orient on Saturday, Hartlepool have the chance to get back to winning ways as they welcome Bradford City to the Suit Direct Stadium. The 0-0 draw with Orient won't live long in the memory for Pools, and changes are expected following a heavy run of fixtures for Graeme Lee's side.

The Opposition

Bradford currently sit 15th in League Two, five points behind Pools and eight points clear of the drop-zone. Led by former Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City manager Mark Hughes, the Bantams side has just two wins in their last 10 games, defeating league leaders Forest Green last time out and overcoming Stevenage in early February.

Two familiar names feature in the Bantams side, with Luke Hendrie and Matty Daly both regular features in their side. Caolan Lavery played in pre-season for Pools as a trialist, while Nathan Delfouneso is a former Aston Villa, Blackburn, and Blackpool forward who features against Pools in the Papa John's Trophy third round. In that fixture, it was now-Bantam Daly that got the winner.

The History

This will be the 90th first-class fixture between the sides, with Pools winning 33 of the previous games, Bradford winning 34, and 22 matches ending in a draw. Last time out, Pools claimed their first away win back in League Two thanks to a Mark Cullen brace and an own goal from Yann Songo'o.

Team News

Luke Molyneux was rested on Saturday, and further changes may occur after a leggy display against Orient. Isaac Fletcher and Marcus Carver have been restricted to substitute appearances recently, and both will be hopeful of opportunities against Bradford.
