Match preview: Pools travel to Northampton

25 March 2022

Following a thrilling 3-2 win at Newport last Friday, Hartlepool United travel to Northampton Town this Saturday. Pools are 10 points off the final play-off place with nine games to play, and fans will be hopeful of finishing as high as possible to build a good base for next season.

The Opposition

Northampton are currently third in League Two, occupying the final automatic promotion place. In their last five games, they've won twice, lost twice, and drawn once, and they'll want to get more wins on the board to keep those automatic promotion hopes high.

The side is led by John Brady, who took over in May 2021, and features former Pools loanee Tyler Magloire.

The History

This is the 69th meeting between the sides, with Pools winning 25 of the previous encounters and Northampton victorious on 28 occasions. The sides last met earlier this season, when goals from David Ferguson and Luke Molyneux secured the win for Pools.

Team News

Graeme Lee has a full squad to choose from, though the game may come a little too soon for Bryn Morris after his injury. The front-three of Molyneux, Bogle, and Grey will want to finish the season strongly, while the defence will be hoping for more clean sheets as Pools consolidate their position in League Two.
