Billingham Synthonia: Match report, highlights and reaction

12 July 2022

Hartlepool United ran out 6-0 winners over local neighbours Billingham Synthonia in an entertaining pre-season affair.

Pools started brightly, and they took the lead in the first few minutes through Alex Lacey’s header. Constant pressure followed, and Jake Hastie got the goal of the day with a piledriver from range to double the lead.

Next, a brace from Marcus Carver cemented Pools’ lead. Both were instinctive finishes and will do the striker’s confidence the world of good.

Tom Crawford got on the scoresheet just before the interval, poaching after the Synners keeper made a great save.

After the break, Pools remained in control and could have pushed towards double figures if not for the home side’s goalkeeper. They did make it six after 66 minutes, with Joe Grey tapping home after Trialist A’s shot was well saved.

Callum Cooke hit the crossbar with a free kick as time petered out, and the referee called a halt to proceedings to confirm Pools’ win.

Next up for Pools are Marske United on Tuesday evening’s fixture.

First Half XI: Killip; Tumilty, Niang, Lacey, Ferguson; Shelton, Featherstone, Crawford; Trialist A, Carver, Hastie

Second Half XI: Letheren; Ogle, Lacey, Niang; Trialist A, Shelton, Cooke, Crawford, Paterson; Carver Grey
