Match preview: Pools travel to Crawley

10 February 2022

After an impressive 3-1 over Barrow AFC on Tuesday night, thanks to a Luke Molyneux brace and a first Pools goal for Omar Bogle, attention now turns to Crawley Town on Saturday (3PM KO) away at The People’s Pension Stadium.

Fan information

For fans travelling, Crawley would like to offer supporters the opportunity to visit the Redz Bar (situated by our South Stand) before the match.  This is open to home and away supporters and offers a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and light refreshments.

The Opposition

Crawley are currently sitting in 12th place in the League Two table, and are in decent form having not lost in four games. Their last game was a 3-1 victory away at Harrogate Town with Aramide Oteh, Nick Tsaroulla and Tom Nichols on the scoresheet for the Reds on Tuesday night.

Seven-time Ghana international Kwesi Appiah and Tom Nichols are their top scorers so far this season with eight a piece. Midfielder Jack Powell and right back and captain George Francomb lead their assist charts with four. John Yems set up his team in a 442 last game but have used 343 or 352 for a lot of this season.

Hartlepool United form: WLDWD

The History

The two sides have faced each other seven times over the years with the last fixture being the return fixture, Pools’ League two opener a 1-0 win for the home side. However, that is the only time Pools have beat Crawley, drawing three and losing three of the other fixtures. The first time the sides played was back in 2012 when both sides were in League One – Pools lost 1-0 that day.

Team News

After the side impressed on Tuesday, Graeme Lee left it late to make any changes, and rightly so – it is safe to assume that he will opt for a similar team set up in the 433. Skipper Nicky Featherstone is still banned following his sending off against Exeter City, so new signing Bryn Morris will likely keep his place in the heart of midfield. Marcus Carver was out running pre-match on Tuesday so he could be back in contention for the trip to Crawley.
