Match preview: Pools host Barrow AFC

8 February 2022

After Saturday's trip to Premier League Crystal Palace, Pools return to league action with the visit of Barrow AFC. The Bluebirds travel to Pools on Tuesday evening (7.45pm KO) and Graeme's Lee side will be out for revenge against the side that beat them 3-2 in Pools' first away game back in League Two.

The Opposition

Barrow are currently 19th in the League Two table, just a point behind Pools. They've won seven times this season, including one of their previous five games. A win over Northampton came before a draw with Tranmere, and before that, the Bluebirds suffered defeats to Newport, Salford, and Mansfield.
The Barrow side features familiar names in former Poolie Luke James and one of our short-term loanees from last season, Tom White. John Rooney has just rejoined the Bluebirds after leaving Stockport, and the attacker will want to recapture the form that saw him earn a big-money move to the Greater Manchester side.

The History

This will be the 94th meeting between the sides and Pools will be hoping to get revenge after being defeated 3-2 at Holker Street in August. Former loanees Tyler Burey and Will Goodwin were on the scoresheet for Pools that day, but goals from Zanzala, Gordon, and Sea saw Mark Cooper's side emerge victoriously. In all, Pools have won 37 of the previous matches, Barrow have won 34, and 22 games have ended in a draw.

Team News

As has been the case in most of Pools' recent games, Graeme Lee has tough decisions to make on Tuesday. New loanee goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic could come into contention after being cup tied at the weekend.

Marcus Carver continues to recover from his injury and Nicky Featherstone is missing following his red card at Exeter.
