Match report & post-match: Pools defeated by Bradford

20 August 2022

Hartlepool United were defeated 3-1 by Bradford City in the Saturday early kick-off.

It was the visitors who started the game in quick fashion as Crystal Palace loanee Scott Banks picked the ball up on the right hand side, cut onto his left foot and buried the ball past Killip.

Pools responded well and continued to push the Bantams defence. Two minutes after the goal, Umerah had a low angled shot towards goal but it was no test for the goalkeeper.

On the 18 minute mark, Pools levelled! Mcdonald started the move switching the ball over to Hastie, one touch out his feet and another cross into the box and David Ferguson nodded in at the back-post.

Bradford continued to push forward and on the half hour mark, a double effort from a scramble in the box produced a superb double save from Killip.

Half-time: Hartlepool United 1-1 Bradford City

The second half started as the first ended with both sides trying to find a breakthrough. Neither side could create a clear cut chance until Bradford strook on 65 minutes. A quick breakaway found the substitute Harrit, his cross was turned in first time by Cook and Mark Hughes' side led again.

Josh Umerah continued to work hard and found an opening on 77 minutes. The frontman turned away from Crichlow-Noble but his effort was dragged wide.

The three points were signed and sealed for Bradford when in stoppage time, a quick breakaway unleashed Andy Cook who cut inside onto his left foot and buried the ball past Killip.

Pools now face two away games on the bounce with Leyton Orient up first next Saturday.
