Match Preview: Pools prepare for Papa John action

29 August 2022

Following a difficult weekend in the capital, Hartlepool United return to home soil as they take on Harrogate Town in the Papa John's Trophy on Tuesday (7pm KO). Last season, Pools were a penalty shootout away from Wembley in the Trophy, and they'll want to go a step further this season.

The Opposition

Harrogate sit 18th in the League Two table after six matches. They've won twice, drawn once, and lost three times in their opening fixtures, and last time out, they lost 4-0 at home to Newport County. The side is led by long-standing manager Simon Weaver and features two former Pools loanees in Luke Armstrong and Matty Daly.

The History

Harrogate have been something of a bogey team for Pools in the past, with last season's double over Town the first competitive victories for Pools. At home, strikes from David Ferguson, Mark Cullen, and Matty Daly secured three points in a 3-2 win, while the reverse fixture saw an equaliser from David Ferguson and a Luke Molyneux wonder-strike give Pools the win.
