Match Preview: Pools head to Sixfields

12 August 2022

After Wednesday evening’s trip to Ewood Park, Hartlepool United travel to Northampton Town on Saturday looking for their first win of the season.

The Opposition

Northampton sit eighth in the table after an opening-day win over Colchester and a draw with Grimsby. The Cobblers finished fourth in League Two last season, losing to Mansfield in the play-off semi-finals, and they’ll want to push on this season.

Led by manager Jon Brady, the Northampton side features former Sunderland ‘keeper Lee Burge, former Pools loanee Tyler Magloire, and experienced forward Danny Hylton.

The History

This will be the 70th meeting between the sides. In the past, Pools have won 25 times, the Cobblers have won 29 times, and 14 games have ended in a draw.

Pools have won just once as the away team, and that was in 1969. Last time out, Pools lost 2-0 at Sixfields after goals from Sam Hoskins and Chanka Zimba.

Team News

Paul Hartley rotated his side for the Carabao Cup in midweek, and he’s likely to revert to the players from last weekend’s home game with Walsall. Joe Grey and Mikael Ndjoli remain sidelined, so Ellis Taylor and Jake Hastie are the available wide players.
