Manager's notes: Bradford

19 August 2022

Welcome back!

I’d firstly like to welcome Mark Hughes and his team to the North-east.

Tuesday was a hard-fought game and it was good to get the clean sheet, but need a bit more quality in the final third.

We’re defending well and keeping the ball out, but we need to be better with our final product and decision making higher up the pitch. We tweaked the system to overload the wide areas and Wes McDonald was positive and direct on his debut.

Josh (Umerah) was positive, but we need to get him more central and get on the end of crosses. To get more goals, we just need that spark to kickstart the season.

We wanted six points from this week, but a win today would give us four. We got the clean sheet on Tuesday and we need to build on that today.

We’ve been training really well all week and we’re excited to be playing back at home. Bradford are one of the favourites to go up and they’ve got a great manager in Mark Hughes in charge. They’ve got a good threat up the top end of the pitch but I’m confident we can push on from Tuesday and get the result.

I want to thank the fans for the great atmosphere they created the other night and I know they’ll all be right behind us today.

Enjoy the game!
