Match preview: Pools travel to FGR

7 April 2022

With just six games of the season left, Hartlepool United travel to league-leaders Forest Green Rovers on Saturday (3pm KO) looking to end the season strongly. Pools have consolidated their position in League Two this season, but will still want to give the fans something to cheer as they close out the campaign.

The Opposition
Rovers are currently top of the pile, seven points clear of their closest rivals, Exeter City. They’re 12 points clear of Northampton in fourth, and can virtually guarantee automatic promotion if results go their way on Saturday.

Led by head coach Rob Edwards, the FGR squad features quality throughout, but they’ll be without top scorer Matthew Stevens for the remainder of the campaign due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The History
This is just the second meeting between the sides, with the only other meeting coming at the Suit Direct Stadium in November. In that game, Forest Green won 3-1 after first-half goals from Jordan Moore-Taylor, Jamille Matt, and Matthew Stevens. Nicky Featherstone replied from the penalty spot for Pools, but Tony Sweeney’s side couldn’t muster a comeback.

Team News
After speaking in his pre-match conference, Graeme Lee will assess Bryn Morris ahead of the weekend. Joe Grey looks likely to be in the fold after hobbling off against Salford but Luke Molyneux is unlikely to feature.
