Pools sign Mike Fondop

16 September 2021

We are delighted to announce the signing of Mike Fondop.

The forward joins us on a permanent deal after leaving Burton Albion at the end of last season.

The 6’3 striker started his career with Billericay Town after trialling for the u-21 side. Fondop would go on to score six goals in his opening eight games and in doing so, bagged himself a move to Oxford City in 2016.

The Cameroonian went on to feature for Halifax Town, Wrexham, Maidenhead, Chesterfield, Aldershot and most recently Burton Albion.

Known for his strength and power, Fondop was the top scorer in the 2019/20 Chesterfield side with 11 goals during his spell.

Dave Challinor spoke about his two new signings:

We’ve been looking to add in forward areas. Both players have been training with us and it’s great to be able to add them to the squad. They’re different to what we have and most importantly their experience will undoubtedly allow us to mix things up at the top end of the pitch. We are very young at the top end and that brings inconsistencies at times and we can’t rely solely on that youthful exuberance. Without question we need to add presence and goals to the team and both Jordan and Mike have shown a capacity to be able to do this. We hope they’ll hit the ground running and add to what had been a good start for us.

Mike added:

I am delighted to sign for the club. It is a huge club with great history and even better fans. I have trained a few times with Dave Challinor and his side and they are great to work with. I can’t wait to get started.

Fondop will wear the number 36 and will be available for Saturdays matchday squad subject to EFL clearance.
