Match Preview – Stevenage v Hartlepool
Fresh from continuing their unbeaten run at home in League Two, Hartlepool United travel to Hertfordshire to take on Stevenage. Despite missing key players, Pools earned a credible 1-1 draw with Exeter, and Dave Challinor’s side will hope to build on the performance with three points on the road.
Stevenage currently sit in 21st place in League Two after a mixed started to the season. The Herts outfit defeated Barrow and Bristol Rovers in the opening fixtures, before a draw with Port Vale was sandwiched by defeats to Bradford City and Walsall. Further losses to Forest Green and Sutton United have followed in recent weeks.
The side is led by manager Alex Revell, a former Stevenage player. The made 150 appearances for Rotherham United during a 20-year playing career that also included spells at Brighton, Cardiff, and Northampton.
This will be the 12th meeting between the sides, with Pools winning just once in the past. Stevenage have been victorious on eight occasions, while two games have ended in a draw. The most recent result saw Pools get their solitary win after goals from Nicky Featherstone and Brad Walker. Stevenage’s bench on that day featured former Poolie Ryan Johnson.
Pools are still likely to be without key players, depending on how they respond to treatment this week. Gavan Holohan, Gary Liddle, and David Ferguson all missed out against Exeter, though Luke Hendrie, Matty Daly, and Eddie Jones were excellent stand-ins. Tyler Burey is a long-term absentee, while Joe Grey is still receiving treatment for his injury.
