Match Preview: Pools welcome Grecians to the Vic

24 September 2021

After winning four League Two home games in a row, Hartlepool United welcome Exeter City to Victoria Park. Pools will want to make it five out of five, but will face a stern test against an Exeter side that claimed their first away three points a fortnight ago.

The Opposition

Exeter currently sit a place above Pools in the league, occupying fifth place after claiming 13 points from their opening eight games. Last time out, they defeated Sutton United 2-0 at home, and their previous fixture saw them defeat Scunthorpe 4-0 at the Irons' own ground.

Led by Matt Taylor, the Grecians' squad features former Poolie Padraig Amond. The forward joined on a season-long loan from Newport County in the Summer.

The History

This will be the 85th meeting between the sides, with Pools winning 27 of the previous fixtures, Exeter winning 34, and 23 games ending in a draw. The last game between the sides was in December 2019, when a last-minute winner from Josh Hawkes saw Pools sneak through in an FA Cup replay.

Team News

Gavan Holohan has missed the last couple of games, and the Irishman is likely to miss out on Saturday too. Dave Challinor has this morning confirmed that Gary Liddle is ruled out of tomorrows game and David Ferguson is unlikely. Tyler Burey is a long-term absentee.
