Following Tuesday evening’s hard-fought victory over League One Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup, Hartlepool United turn their attention back to league action with the visit of league leaders Forest Green.
After their first 15 games, Forest Green are the pacesetters in League Two. Nine wins, four draws, and two losses sees Rovers top of the pile, eight points above Pools in 10th place. Led by head coach Rob Edwards, a former England U20s coach, Forest Green will be hoping to go a couple of steps further than last season. After finishing sixth, Rovers lost in the play-off semi-finals to Newport County.
This is the first-ever meeting between the two sides. As Pools were relegated to the National League in 2017, Forest Green achieved promotion via a Promotion Final victory over Tranmere. Now four years later, both sides meet as contenders in the League Two race for promotion.
Gavan Holohan and Tyler Burey were absent for Tuesday evening’s game, but otherwise, Tony Sweeney had a full-strength squad to choose from. Jake Lawlor remains out on loan, but the defence is in good shape following the returns of Jamie Sterry, Zaine Francis-Angol, and Gary Liddle.
Mark Cullen’s five goals in six starts is likely to see him continue in attack, with Fela Olomola returning to the bench against Wycombe to provide another option in attack.
