Match preview: Fans return for Weymouth

27 May 2021

In front of home support for the first time this season,

Hartlepool United face Weymouth in their final game of the regular National

League season. With a play-off place already secured, Pools will be hoping results

go their way in their search for a third-place finish and home semi-final.

The Opposition

Weymouth are currently 18th in the National

League and will be reasonably happy with their performances in this their first

season in the league. They've won just one of their previous five games,

defeating Altrincham 2-1 at home. In that time they've been beaten by Notts

County, Boreham Wood, Solihull Moors, and newly crowned champions, Sutton

United.

The team is led by Brian Stock, appointed in September 2020

after leaving Bournemouth's backroom staff. Weymouth's squad features former Poolie

Myles Anderson, Brazilian Alefe Santos, and Spaniard Joan Luque, a graduate of

Barcelona's academy.

The History

This will be the second meeting between the sides, with Weymouth

winning the reverse fixture. In January, Josh McQuiod's goal was the difference

between the two sides at the Bob Lucas Stadium as the Terras won 1-0.

Team News

Dave Challinor has no new injury concerns for this fixture,

but may decide to make changes with a play-off campaign to come. David Ferguson

and Mark Shelton were both rested for last Sunday's match at Sutton, but they

could re-enter the fray this weekend.

Ben Killip and Joe Grey are long-term absentees.
